Monday Night Mile High Blizzard

October 15, 1984
Mile High Stadium, Denver
Denver (17) over Green Bay (14)

In a raging blizzard, the Packers gave away 14 points to the Broncos on their first two plays from scrimmage, deep in their end. Broncos' defensive backs Steve Foley and Louis Wright each returned a fumble for a touchdown, making the Broncos the first NFL team to ever score 14 points without first taking an offensive snap. On the Packers first play Gerry Ellis was hit in the backfield by Tom Jackson, and Foley picked up the ball and ran it in for the score. On the Packers' next play from scrimmage, Tom Busick stripped the ball from Jessie Clark, and Wright picked up the loose ball and carried it to the endzone.

A valiant second-half comeback by the Packers closed the margin, but fell short. The Packers' James Lofton had 206 yards receiving in 11 catches as Packers quarterback Lynn Dickey threw for 371 yards. This was during John Elway's first season with the Broncos.
